3rd December 2005 (Saturday) – Rainy - Pisa / Venice

We woke up at 0415hrs. It was raining quite heavily and we walked in the rain back to SMA Florence train station. Our plan was to leave our baggage at the depository but it only open at 0600hrs. We decided to continue as plan for our day –trip to Pisa and we brought our baggage along. We took the 0532hrs train to Pisa and would reach Pisa Centrale at 0640hrs. The trip took 1hr 8mins and cost E5.10 per ticket. Lucky for us, the bag depository at Pisa Centrale was open. We left our 2 large backpacks for E6. We walked to the Leaning Tower of Pisa from Pisa Centrale Station. It was still dark when we arrived at Pisa Centrale Station. The walk took us about 20mins. The tower REALLY LEANS. We were the only ones there. We took a lot of pictures and there was no one to fight with to get the best spot for pictures. Luckily, a lady walked past and we manage to get her to take a picture for us. Then it started to drizzle and we seek shelter outside a restaurant and had our breakfast – bread with bak kwa and hotdog with full view of the tower.

We walked back to the station and picked up our backpacks. We took the train (0933hrs) back to Firenze (1045hrs). Each ticket cost E5.10. At Firenze, our train to Bologna was suppose to leave at 1133hrs but was delayed for 15mins (E10.75 per ticket). It finally arrived at 1148hrs. Luckily, we had made reservations cos the train was very packed and someone had taken our seats. We showed them our reservations and got our seats back. We saw a Hush Puppy on board the train. This was my first time that I saw a dog allowed to board a train.

We reached Bologna Central at about 13oohrs. We missed our train transfer to Venezia at 1253hrs. The next train was at 1353hrs. We waited for the next one. The ticket cost E7.90 per ticket. There was a weird man who drew picture after picture on his drawing pad. There was also a life-size cardboard advertisement of “Mr & Mrs Smith”. Took pictures with the large advert.

It was very foggy when we reached Venice at 1558hrs. The journey took about 2hrs. We walked to our hotel – Casa Alloggi Gerotto & Calderan (E110) as our hotel was quite near to the train station (Santa Lucia). Anyway cars are not allowed in Venice. The hotel did not have any lifts and our room was on the 4th level. We put our stuff down and went out.

The sky was getting dark very quickly. We walked past a E1 shop and I bought some gifts. I bought 3 crystal candle holders and a Christmas décor for the main door. We walked all the way to Billa supermarket (famous for its cheap groceries) and went back to the hotel. On the way back, we bought a pizza (E3.80) along the way.
